Whole House Renovation in Bethesda, MD

Existing Style: Mid-Century Modern

New Style: Contemporary Prairie Style

Client: Home Owner

Services Provided: Architectural Design, Building Permits

The client requested a complete renovation of the home, including the addition of a new deck at the rear of the property. To complement the existing overhangs, JCS Architects proposed transitioning the design to a Contemporary Prairie Style. This style is characterized by low-pitched, hipped roofs with wide overhanging eaves, and a strong emphasis on horizontal lines, clearly reflected in the rooflines and window arrangements. A blend of materials — such as stonework at the base and smooth panels above — highlights the contemporary interpretation. Large, grouped windows further enhance the design, bringing in abundant natural light while maintaining the home’s strong horizontal expression.
